SocializationWe believe that all people need association with others in similar circumstances to have the chance to develop friendships and participate in a circle of relationships and support. Individuals with similar socialization and sensory needs spend quality time together allowing for friendships to develop outside of home life. At Paragon, people make friends with people they like and learn how to resolve conflicts with those who have contrasting values or viewpoints. Encouragement to engage in socially acceptable behavior is balanced with individual preferences, rights and choices. Our staff to participant ratio is high--1 staff to 3.5 people. This enables us to assist those with behavioral and communication challenges that can hinder their ability to make friendships and associate with people in their community. Paragon offers prompting in natural settings, formal groups teaching manners and socialization skills, and individualized behavioral programs which encourage socially acceptable standards of behavior through rewarding, redirection, role modeling and other strategies.
