Homegrown Wholesale Greenhouse
Oconomowoc, Wisconsin
Site
Homegrown Greenhouse has been helping people with disabilities for over 15 years, and is a division of Paragon Industries. Paragon provides vocational and work support services for people with disabilities throughout southeastern Wisconsin. The Greenhouse is one of those work opportunities.
Through an agreement with Oconomowoc Developmental Training Center (ODTC), a sister company of Paragon, Homegrown Greenhouse is operated on the campus of ODTC. The greenhouse was opened in the fall of 1992 and has employed many young adults living at ODTC over the years, as well as providing employment for other people from the community.

"IT'S TIME TO PLAY IN THE DIRT!!!"
Program
The greenhouse offers seasonal employment to people involved in Paragon's vocational and work programs. Workers are taught how to plant and care for the flowers, how to monitor heat and humidity levels and, most importantly, how to work as a team. Workers may also be involved in implementation of fundraisers or employment opportunities related to the seasonal retail outlets.
Homegrown Wholesale Greenhouse has two primary seasons--a spring growing season and a holiday season, although specialized services and products are available at other times throughout the year.
During the spring season, Homegrown Greenhouse grows over 75 varieties of annual flats, along with numerous other spring favorites, which also include a nice selection of perennials for purchase. Along with fundraising, Homegrown operates three seasonal huts, located next to popular shopping centers and grocery stores in the local area. In addition, if you prefer not to plant your flowers yourself, Greenhouse staff are available to assist in planting your personal garden, including individualized decorative pots or flowerbeds. Staff are also available to provide these services to local businesses in the area.
In need of fundraising, decorating or gifts? The selling of multiple sizes and colors of Poinsettias at holiday time, or flats of beautiful annuals or perennials in spring can be a lucrative venture for your organization. Homegrown has participated in organizing many successful fundraisers and would be happy to assist any company interested in setting one up. Wholesale prices allow organizations to raise funds for their needs. Fund-raising activities with Homegrown Wholesale Greenhouse flowers are available and encouraged for either or both growing seasons.
